Christiania Freetown is a green and car free hippie neighborhood in the heart of Copenhagen. Christiania's history stretches back to 1971, when a group of hippies occupied some old military quarters and set up their own society rules, liberated from the Danish government.
Christiania has around 1000 inhabitants, many are native residents in this collectively managed village. About half a million people visit Christiania each year which makes it one of Denmark’s largest tourist attractions.
Throughout the whole area you find creative houses in all shapes and colors, organic eateries, alternative cultural experiences and shopping opportunities.
