The Senate Square, located in the historical center of Helsinki, is an iconic landmark of Helsinki. Dominated by the magnificent Helsinki Cathedral, the square is surrounded by neoclassical buildings, including the Government Palace and the University of Helsinki. On the South side of the square you'll find the Helsinki City Museum, the Helsinki Tourist Information and the Torikorttelit quarters with lots of cafés, restaurants and shopping opportunities.
In the center of the square stands the statue of Alexander II, and the outlines of the Ulrika Eleonora Church, which stood here in the 1700s and 1800s, are marked on the ground. This historic area offers a glimpse into Finland's rich cultural heritage and is a perfect spot for sightseeing, photography, and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of the city. Senate Square is also a central event location, hosting celebrations such as the Samba Carnival, Helsinki Pride, and in the Christmas season, Tuomaanmarkkinat - Helsinki Christmas Market.
