The Design Museum in Helsinki is a museum entirely devoted to the rich subject of Finnish design. The museum researches, collects, preserves, documents and displays designs in Finland as well as at international exhibitions.
The museum houses a permanent exhibition on the topic of Finnish design ranging from 1870 to the present day as well as various temporary exhibitions that cover a wide range of topics related to design. The permanent collection boasts of over 125,000 images, 75,000 objects and 45,000 drawings.
The Design Museum also produces touring exhibitions and publishes books and catalogues on Finnish design, its history and its most important characters. The museum itself is located in an old school building in the heart of Helsinki, originally designed by the architect Gustav Nyström in 1895. You also find a shop and a café here where you can get a cup of coffee and relax or find some souvenirs.
