During this luxury day trip we take you to see the World Heritage Windmills at Kinderdijk and city of The Hague. The tour also includes a visit to one of the next three highlights:
1. the Mauritshuis with impressive paintings from the 17th Century,
2. the Gemeentemuseum full of modern art from Mondriaan, Kadinsky and Picasso, among others
3. Madurodam, where you can see the greatness of The Netherlands on a miniature scale.
Our first destination is Kinderdijk, with its iconic windmills, which are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This polder landscape with its dikes, pumping stations and beautifully preserved windmills, is seen as ‘a powerful testimony to human ingenuity’. Our experienced guide will take you to the Visitor Centre at Kinderdijk, where you can see a film about the history of the area. After that, you visit a working windmill and have time to wander through the picturesque landscape. Admire the unique collection of 19 monumental windmills and take a look at one of the shipyards. Shipbuilding is still the main industry in this picturesque village.
From Kinderdijk we travel on to The Hague. The third largest city in the Netherlands is the home of the Dutch royal family and seat of the Dutch government and parliament. Most of the foreign embassies are also located in The Hague, together with several royal palaces and the headquarters of more than 150 international organisations, including the United Nations International Court of Justice. On our arrival in The Hague we go on a city tour that covers all of these highlights.
After stopping for lunch, we travel on to the cultural highlight you chose (the Mauritshuis, the Gemeentemuseum or Madurodam).
We return to Amsterdam late afternoon.
