History

Stromma’s experiences are underpinned by a strong tradition of historic and cultural values. Stromma has a history dating back to 1809. Today the company is the largest provider of experiences in the Nordics.


1809: Per Christian Rettig founded P.C Rettig & Co in Gävle

1847: Per Christian Rettig started Rettigska varvet

1897: Ångfartygs AB Bore Lines established

1968: Nya Ångfartygs AB Strömma Kanal established

1978: Bore Tourist Sightseeing acquired

1991: Strömma City Sightseeing Stockholm acquired

1992: Ångfartygs AB Strömma Kanal acquired

1997: Bore Paddan acquired

1999: Bore changed name to Strömma Turism & Sjöfart AB

1999-2009: Various acquisitions, including Open Top Tours, Rederi AB Göta Kanal, Interbus AB, Ekmanbuss and Rundan Turisttrafik (established 1947)

2011-2013: Business acquired in Denmark, Finland and Norway

2013: Royal Sightseeing acquired

2015: Interbus, Viking Bus and Ekmanbuss gets divested

2016: Canal in Amsterdam acquired

2019: Stromma starts sightseeing operation in Berlin

Today Stromma operates in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Stockholm, Uppsala, Gothenburg, Malmö, Visby, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oslo, Olden, Kristiansand, Stavanger, Bergen, Geiranger, Ålesund and Berlin. Stromma's 30 brands include several well-known names.


Strömma Kanalbolaget has been Purveyor to the Court of Sweden since 1990. This title is synonymous with Swedish quality.
