Armide - Summer Opera Performance 2024
For the first time ever, a Lully opera will be performed at Drottningholm Palace Theatre. A French artistic team, in collaboration with the music director and conductor Francesco Corti, will interpret the masterpiece Armide. This work, a pinnacle of the French Baroque, has been a model for musical and lyrical creation since its premiere in 1686.
Armide is a tragedy with a libretto by Philippe Quinault, on par with contemporaries such as Racine and Molière. The piece achieved immediate success and was frequently staged in the late 17th century.
The opera features dance scenes where supernatural beings mirror the emotions of the main characters. Joy and terror, reality and fantasy are intricately woven together in this exceptional work.

Return to Stockholm by bus
