The History of M/S Gustaf III
M/S Gustaf III is a historic gem that was built in 1912 at Bergsund's Mekaniska Verkstad and delivered to the Coastal Artillery in Vaxholm. There, the ship was used for transport between Vaxön and Rindö until 1950.
In 1974 Rederi AB Sommar & Sol bought the ship and renamed her M/S Gustaf III after some renovation and rebuilding. Furthermore, Strömma Kanalbolaget bought the vessel in 1995.
Did you know that M/S Gustaf III during the years 1953 to 1956 HMS Rindö functioned as a book boat, she was the first book boat in Stockholm County. The mobile archipelago library was started and run by county librarian Elise Adelsköld on Lidingö. It was very popular and lasted until 1981.
